Thread: I Love Swype! How do I get it on my Kindle Fire?

I Love Swype! How do I get it on my Kindle Fire?

Hello. I love, love, love using Swype. I had it on my Nexus One. I have it on my HTC Amaze 4G. I can't live without it. With that said, I just got a Kindle Fire and I think that I am going to have to shoot myself if I have to go back to plucking out letters on a soft keyboard.

Also, as a Beta tester, I feel that I should be giving constructive criticism. If I am correct in that, what is the best way to do this? Is there a survey or something?

Can't you just install it the same way you did for your phone?
Open silk, type the url in, logon, download the installer etc.

edit - just tried it - the fire is not seen as an android phone.
Wonder if you can sideload the installer?

If the download site is telling you that the device is not an Android device that is probably because your browser's user agent is set to desktop or iOS. More information on this can be found here: http://forum.swype.com/showthread.ph...et-ATT-Devices

That link speaks about pre-loaded versions?
But your suggestion of desktop versus mobile was spot on. Thanks!
However when I click 'enable' it brings up the Kindles keyboard settings for sound and auto caps, etc. I see no way to choose the swype keyboard?
There is no "Swype" as a choice.

I loaded email and tried the long press to give me a choice of input...nothing but "Kindle Keyboard."

Sorry, grabbed the wrong link. Just corrected it.

If when you long press on an input field and Swype is not listed as an option in the Input Device menu this means that Swype is not loaded as an available Input Device even though it may be installed. The installer should step you through doing this. Just relaunch the installer and it should guide you through the process.

    Relaunched, reloaded, reinstalled. No joy.
Amazon has limited the input choice to the Kindle's keyboard.
Neither method, long click in a field or a regular "Enable Swype," has any choice other than the Kindle available.

From the Home Screen press the menu button, select settings then under Language and Input tap Configure Input Methods. In here is there a selection for Swype? And if so make sure there is a checkmark in the option for Swype.

After Swype has been selected as an available input method you should then be able to long press on an input field and select Swype from the Input Method menu.

If you do not have these options available on the kindle you'll need to contact Amazon and ask then how to enable an input device as an available method and then select it as your active input method.

Amazon has heavily modified the droid system.
From Menu there are these choices:

Help & Feedback (Already sent that off asking for Swype)
    My Account
    Sounds
    Display
Security (Device admin, credential storage and lock screen pw)
    Applications
    Date & Time
    Wireless Network
Kindle Keyboard (This provide for audio feedback, autocorrection, and auto caps)
Device (Amount of Free storage, Battery status, 3rd party apps toggle, mac etc)
    Legal Notices
Terms of Use (Link to an Amazon web page)

Since the fire is only for sale in the US as of right now, there is no language choice, therefore no Configure Input Methods.

I replied but it didn't post - spoke of review by mod first?
If this is a touchy subject, I'd be glad to PM or email or cease altogether. Let me know.

Long post, short - there is no language choice nor input configuration.
