Thread: Severe incompatibility bug with HTC apps

Unhappy Severe incompatibility bug with HTC apps

    • HTC one
    • Telstra (Australia)
    • Android 4.1.2
    • Stock HTC Sense 5.0
    • Not root
    • Swype 1.5.0.15186

The following behaviour is evident in both the HTC Notes app and the HTC Mail app:
    1. Type Hello world. (including the fullstop/period)
    2. Press backspace once. The fullstop/period is correctly deleted.
    3. Press backspace again. The expected result is Hello worl; the actual result is Hello worldworl, where the last four letters are now highlighted.
    4. Continue to press backspace until only Hello world remains.
    5. Press backspace again. Text is now correct: Hello worl
    6. Press backspace again. Text is now incorrect: Hello worlHell, where the last four letters are highlighted.

This behaviour makes it basically impossible to use the HTC apps with Swype.

Sounds like a smart editor bug. Try disabling that in the Swype settings.

Do those steps reproduce it every time?

Disabling Smart Editor doesn't fix it.

The steps I describe reproduce the bug every time.

    Thanks.

Hmm that's a surprise. Do any other keyboards have this problem?

The stock keyboard doesn't exhibit this behavior.

Also, this behavior only seems to occur in the HTC apps. It doesn't occur in Gmail, for example.

I have the one as well but in the USA, the Swype keyboard does not exhibit the issues you are having. I tried in HTC note app and could not reproduce.

More information: It only occurs in the main body text editor, not the title editor box.

Also, it doesn't do it if you don't "complete" word world by entering the period.

    Hi 6rabbit,

We have this issue logged internally as a bug, so it's on our radar! This will be addressed in a future release!

Thank you for the clear repro steps!

I have exactly the same problem on a UK HTC one, and it renders Swype unusable. When might we expect a fix?

    Hi,

We have come up with a solution for this issue and it will be implemented in a future version of Swype. We don't have an exact date available on when this fix will be available, but will include this in our release notes when it is released.

    Thanks
