I signed my wife and my email for the beta and received the email confirmation but when I try to activate it does not work.....any idea why?

The email server was down earlier today. Try resending the activation email and retrying. You can do so at this link: https://beta.swype.com/android/user/resendactivation/

I have similar problem. I received activation confirmed email with link under which I need to give my username (email, I presume) and password which I do not know.
