View Full Version : [ERROR] "This device is already associated with another account"

IF YOUR DEVICE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH ANOTHER ACCOUNT: You should now be able to download without issue. We've completely disabled that check server-side.

IF YOU ALREADY HAD 2 DEVICES ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR ACCOUNT: You'll have to use the one-time-only reset feature. We'll try to take care of folks who go over their limit of 4 (yes 4 total) devices (2 on the first run, 2 after resetting), but you can understand why people who are on their first device would take precedence over folks who've reached a 5th device. If we just reset everyone every time there would be nothing to stop people from just handing out the beta to all their friends, which is exactly what we DON'T want (not that we don't want it distributed, but rather we don't want our userbase to be that large, and we want to be able to tie each user to an account for tracking and support purposes).

DO NOT POST YOUR IMEI/MEID NUMBER IN THE FORUMS - IT'S A QUICK WAY TO GET YOUR PHONE CLONED!!!!!

I am also getting this error. But I am getting it on the same phone I originally got swype with.

Same with me. Why can't they make this easier -- or is this part of the beta experience?

+1, here too. the whole thing started when i went out of the country on business for a week. well, swype doesn't like it when you keep the phone in airplane mode for an extended period of time. now that i'm finally back, i'm trying to reinstall it, but keep getting this error. really frustrating.

Its sad cause i'm gettin the same error, and as a matter of fact for the past two updates I've been having trouble with getting swype back on my phone. its like i'm not even part of the beta because every single time a new update comes out, i get a new random error that makes no sense. I thought the fact that this one was supposed to fix installation issues i would finally have swype back on my phone, but all it did was give me this issue. I have a Rooted Htc Hero Running Cyanogen Mod 6.1, but whether i run this or restore the original stock rom there is still a separate issue with the installation. i just don't get it. Hope there is a fix that could get me back with swype soon, cuz this is messed up.

same here, i did this: Solution: Account associated with two other devices.
Log into http://beta.swype.com. After logging in you'll see an option to release your ESN association in the Phone Info box. -YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS ONCE!-

I dont have that option in the phone info box, it just says NExus one is my device which is correct.

I just did everything you said to do in the "Shanghai'd for Justice" post by Brian Resnik, (InfoDesk, new ticket, IMEI number, etc) but the auto-generated email I received said my ticket would be automatically closed if it wasn't requested by an administrator/staff. Now what?

Awesome software! Atrocious installation procedure!!!

This is the future of text input on touch screens. I can hardly wait until his holiness grants permission for an iPad version.

Good thing you guys are selling to the service providers and not the end users though. I have been a beta tester since June 2010 using my HTC EVO and I can not see going back to tapping buttons. However, with each update to the beta comes another migraine.

"Not an Android device". "Associated with another account". Etc.

I've been fighting for two hours now trying to get this update installed. Last update I had to go without for almost a week! What are you guys afraid of? Terrorists? Even the TSA doesn't make you jump through this many hoops.

You guys could learn a thing or two from the people who make Qik. They have the same market yet they are aware that it is their clients clients who ultimately pay the bills!

Put a freaking update checker into the software and be done with it already. FAIL.

No matter how many times I try...I cannot get Swype 1.1.15121 installed on my Moto Droid with Froyo.
Yes, I received a replacement Droid last week, and Verizon sent me a refurbished one.
I receive the message "this device is already associated with another account".
Does this mean that I am out of luck and cannot ever get swype again?
That's not good.

I haven't been able to download Swype since I updated to 2.2 on my Incredible. It's getting kind of ridiculous. I've put in 2 tickets now in the last week...hopefully I'll get some answers, if not, I'm taking my business elsewhere and telling all of my Droid customers to do the same.

woo hoo i followed the steps as stated and i was able to 'remove old esn/phone' and my swype installed on my new phone. Anybody that had to replace their device you have to reset the MEID/ESN that is why you keep getting the 'this device is already associated with another account' error. I FRG22D Sapphire 1.1.0 ROM.

Hey folks, here's the scoop:

If you're seeing this error we WILL be able to get you working again, but it may take us a few days to get caught up on all the support requests. Have no fear, we'll get you taken care of in due course. Remember, this is a BETA, and is provided as-is, so we apologize for the delay but this is what you signed on for :)

We're tracking an issue where the wrong error message is being displayed, so as jza80king suggest, please try resetting your ESN through the user account page. If you're given the option and it doesn't work, we'll cover you should you run into problems later because you used up your one-time reset. Don't worry about that :)

Thanks for being patient! We're a bit swamped right now with the update, but we'll get to you all soon, I promise :)

EDIT: Sorry for the ticket "auto-close" warning. I forgot to update that when we changed how the system works! My bad! It should be fixed now :)

Same issue with HTC Evo. Submitted a ticket, hope it doesnt get deleted. Seems i have a problem with every update.

leebosay

It's not the "beta" part the people in this thread are complaining about. In fact, I keep forgetting it IS beta, it works so well (at least on my EVO). Other than an issue where it sometimes stops Swypeing and I have to switch keyboards and switch back that is.

And as for myself, I've participated in a few other beta programs in the past, so I wouldn't expect there to not be any problems.

But this thread is about the INSTALL issues. I would expect you guys would have that covered by now. Of course, there are hundreds of phones and blah blah blah. And in my case, you don't even support Swype on the EVO AFAIK.

In my defense, you created me. You offered a new toy for my Android phone, got me hooked, and now I live in a cardboard box in an alley, always looking for my next Swype fix.

I hope you can sleep at night.

PS: For the record, I did the "remove phone from your account only once" thingy, and it did work. I just hope, for the sake of my neighbors, your installer doesn't leave me high and dry next time!

I can't place a trouble ticket and I don't even have the option to release my ESN and I have never ever used it, so what gives? How are you gonna track that? How will you know to send a "God Update" to those affected? Wishing you folks the best of luck getting the rest of us back in. I can kinda see why a helluva lot of folks that aren't on Beta are hot on a leaked apk over the beta version...as crippled as it may be it works. Again, best of luck.

Phone: HTC EVO 4G
Android OS: Froyo 2.2 (stock)

This is my first post because I've never had to use the forums before, until now.

I didn't know if I had received the "November" update or not. I remembered updating at some point, so I thought I had the update. When I checked the version, I was still on an older version, so I went through the "update" procedures as indicated. The first try to just re-install through the installer didn't update my version to the newest version.

After following the steps of a "full" update (e.g. uninstall installer and app, as well as delete old apk), I received this error. I read through the thread, so just need to know how I can open up a ticket because the InfoDesk doesn't have anything that allows me to do that. In they Swype for Android (Beta) section, it just says that tracking is by Staff request only.

Please let me know what steps I should take to get my phone updated.

I also read that you can "reset" your ESN on your phone, but not sure exactly how to do that.

Resetting my phone fixed this for me. I was about to send in a ticket to reset, so when I tried to look for the IMEI number it said 'unknown'. So, I reseted my Nexus One and tried logging in again and it worked.

Sidenote: This is my first time using Swype. I am already addicted. The hype was true.

jvinci: If your account has hit its limit and it's offering you a reset, you'll probably need to use it anyway. Try that and if it doesn't work I should have all the tickets cleared out later tonight (hopefully). Either way we'll get you taken care of (now and in the future should you waste your one-time reset).

This helps me with nothing seeing as I can't find anything that helps me. It told me to locate my MEID, which I did, but I can't find the place to track the issue or something of that sort. Could you email me personally when you read this at Rastafariancobra@gmail.com to help me with this situation?

Thanks, Tyler

Thanks for the update... however, maybe I'm the only one in the world experiencing this..... If I missed a post that will help me... please don't flame me too bad. :)

I just tried to install the latest version (that fixes all of the installation issues :O ) and got the above installation issue (that supposedly no longer exists on the server :O ). Downloaded the installer and tried again after reading this thread and got the same error again.

I do not have an ESN reset option on my beta.swype.com page, and this is the same phone I have been using swype on since I made it into the beta.

I still got the "...associated with another account..." error message after downloading a fresh copy of the installer yet again. My original Swype issue ticket from 12/7 was never got a response. This has been a VERY frustrating experience. You need to provide instructions and processes assuming that we are all newbies, not instructions that are incomplete for the rest of us because you assume we have the same level of knowledge and background you do with using your website. Especially since you're dealing with an international audience with various levels of English skills.

I reset my EIN as instructed earlier in this thread and it seems to be working now. The new version of Swype is downloading from the installer as I'm typing this. Getting to the "Phone Info" box was a little more challenging than it should be and more steps than "clicking on the Phone Info box":
1. Use the link provided above (http://beta.swype.com/)
2. Click on the Login button
3. Enter your email/password combo (For me, using default Firefox settings, both entry boxes used BLACK text on a BLACK background. I only saw what I was typing after I used my mouse to select the contents of the entry box.)
4. The "Phone Info" box will be at the bottom center of the resulting page.
5. Within the "Phone Info" box, click on the hyperlink at the bottom of the box (going back to the page now, the hyperlink is relabeled)
6. Select the option to reset your EIN
7. Start installer, follow normal installation steps

I had that error previously and now it is working (after They removed the error message on Thurs 12/9), installing latest swype as we speak. Thanks Brian.

Just wanted to add that I was still getting the error today. Reset phone info from the beta page and that got it working. Thanks for that info.

I'd love to reset the EIN to fix the problem but it says it can only be done one time and I refuse to use up my "one time" on a BS issue that has nothing to do with me having to replace my phone or anything else (I'm still using my original phone). Until someone from Swype says it's ok to reset and get future resets (or fixes the problem without needing to reset) I'll just be an extremely annoyed former Swype user

Agreed. Plus I plan on getting a new phone soon anyway so I'd just be screwing myself over.

I'm also having the same problem. Set in a ticket as requested 5 days ago with NO response.

I've had the same HTC EVO since LAUNCH, and haven't changed it, do not have any other accounts, OR phones...so I'm curious as to how this is possible. As others like me have mentioned, I know we can fix this manually under our account but since that is a ONE time fix I would prefer not to resort to that in the off chance my phone ever needs to be replaced or I upgrade.

[b]................ please try resetting your ESN through the user account page. If you're given the option and it doesn't work, we'll cover you should you run into problems later because you used up your one-time reset. Don't worry about that :)

So where is the page with the reset ESM option? I can't even the myswype with the link at top of forum..it is a dead link! I don't see an option anywhere else. I sent a request in as instructed at the info desk (without an admin/moderator request) several days ago and have not heard back. This is frustrating.

I assume this "we'll cover you" means it will be done on an individual basis and not to all beta users (meaning it may take weeks to get the request completed)?...no thanks.

I've been getting this message ever since I got the upgrade message (including after it was declared impossible), BUT, resetting my phone info (which when I did it was via the link "DELETE THIS PHONE FROM MY ACCOUNT" with the equally scary "You can only do this once alert"), and rerunning the installer DID work. I don't know what will happen when I replace this phone (original Droid), but for now it's working again. I submitted a ticket on 12/7 but haven't heard anything one way or another from that. It's been a hard week without my Swype...

Still getting this errror - uninstalled and reinstalled installer just in case and cleared data, also verified email address and password. No errors show up in the LOGCAT. Sent in a ticket days ago with older LOGCAT and info from earlier post in the reset ESN thread. The new LOGCAT shows the same thing. No errors bur it does say 'Resume Occurred' Any ideas?

Right...so if you have removed the response "This device is already associated with another acount" as a response the server can give, do tell why I am still receiving this response.

Still getting this error message, even though it was supposed to have been removed. Also cannot reset my phone info, since it says "Your Active Phone: Unknown Device!". No response to my ticket (ticket 636) that was opened on 12/8 about this issue either. Any help is appreciated with this, it's killing me having to use the stock keyboard.

My post above from the 12th was never answered, nor was the ticket I sent in 7 days ago. I reset the phone under my account...the ominous "ONE TIME ONLY" with the understanding that should I have problems in the future this would be handled...unfortunately with no responses to posts AND tickets I am skeptical of future problems ever being resolved.

Brian- After 2 weeks I got tired of waiting for a response on my trouble ticket and did the one time ESN reset. I have the new beta but I hope you are right and this option will still be open to me in the future in case I actually do change my phone!

Sorry for the lack of response, folks. We're working through a thicket of bugs and prepping another update to fix a few problems.

NOTE: Due to an error in our server-side code, users who have reached their 2 device limit will get the ASSOCIATED WITH ANOTHER ACCOUNT error instead of the proper TOO MANY DEVICES error. We know about the issue, but we have some other things we're working on that take priority right now since it's not a critical bug.

Tried again, still failed with the same error (and I'm still on my first ever Droid phone). I'm not using ShapeWriter keyboard so the daily login to the swype downloader are less time consuming.

Swype is now downloaded working on my phone again after getting that error about the device being associated with another account. I'm assuming that this is due to the fact that the device association check was disabled on the servers. Thanks for doing that Brian (and any other administrators who helped). I really like Swype and it has been killing me that I couldn't use it for the past month.

One more thing, when I login to my beta account, the field that's titled "Phone Info" still reads "Unknown Device". I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about this. I'm running a HTC Incredible, non-rooted, stock Android 2.2.

Again, thanks for the support. Your product is quite simply awesome!

brian.resnik
12-15-2010, 9:04 AM
Stinger: your account has 3 different ESNs associated with it (not sure how you got away with a 3rd, heh). You'll need to use your one-time ESN reset.

rossman_2: Unknown device in that field just means that we weren't able to determine your phone type based on the HTTP header information that was passed back to us. No big deal. You'll be fine :)

I had SWYPE Beta on my EVO and it worked great. I had to replace it, though, after 1 week. Now SWYPE says: This Device is associated with another beta account.
Two things here. It was a brand new phone, so it can't be associated. Second, I submitted a request though INFODESK for an ESN Reset for my EVO about 5 days ago, as instructed. How long does it take to get a response to my request??

I am still unable to get swype to install for me.
I have submitted two tickets, with no response so far, but now I don't even see the InfoDesk link near the top of the forum.

This time without swype really reinforces to me my dislike of actually having to type on my phone.

I had to replace my phone yesterday.
I got the error and followed the instructions on the Sticky.
I've gotten no response and, as noted in the prior post, the infolink is now missing.

Please let us know what the problem is and get swype back to us.
I miss it greatly.

if you are having issues where you get the error message "this device is already registerd with another account", and you've already submitted a ticket to infodesk, here's what you can do.

i've not received any replies from infodesk but you can go to log in at http://beta.swype.com and clicking the link in the Phone Info box. it will ask you if you want to remove the current device. basically you are registering another phone on swype. YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS ONCE!

then go to your email with the install, reinstall and it worked on my phone after that!

Ramennoodles,

Thanks. I found the post about that just before I read yours.

The sticky on page 1 of this thread needs to mention that information. What it is talking about now is completely wrong and is confusing and upsetting a LOT of people.

I'm hoping this device doesn't die before swype is finally released.

Posted this in another thread but this thread is about my error message. Had a Touch HD which. I played with Android on and got Swype working with. I assume this is the Unknown Device found under the phone info on the beta site. Recently bought a new Desire and tried Swype with that but get the associated with another account error. I only have one device listed so can't reset and get this one working. Has my phone been reconditioned and previously used with Swype? Does a reconditioned phone have the same IMEI?

Would really love to get Swype working so would be grateful for some help.

Just been thinking and I might hqve tried Swype on my old tytn ii as well so I may have reached the 2 device limit. If this is so and I'm getting the associated with another account message bug should I have a link to reset the ESN or whatever on the beta site once logged in? If so I don't have that link but still getting the message.

Just a little confused by what's going on.

Posted a support ticket ages ago. Got no reply, this page seems to have changed since then, and so has the error message I'm getting."I'm now getting ID mismatch. This account may not be associated with additional devices, or the device ID could not be read." This is a REPLACEMENT PHONE.

You seem to be messing with your users at the moment, and that's never a good idea. I hope you get these issues resolved soon (having a page on the website where you select one or two(max) active devices would be a very good idea.

There is no "reset" option under the phone info section, and also, my account has not been used with more than 2 phones, this is the second phone that has ever attempted to log into the account, as it's a replacement.

The thread you linked me to is closed so I am unable to respond on there.

P.S. Sorry, I should have looked around more, but one of the threads you linked to, is this thread, and the other one. Pretty much says the same thing.

I see no link and it's only my second phone. It was a warranty replacement phone. Under my phone info section it says "Unknown Device!" My guess is Swype doesn't like Gingerbread. Maybe it's allergic??? Droid incredible running r2doesinc's 2.3 Gingerbread build. Even when I was on CM 6.1 it wouldn't let me install.

mbrinkley

So I found a workaround for the problem. If you have access to a 2nd email address, just move your existing account to the new email address on the swype webpage. Then create a new account with your original email address. Then just forget about the account you assigned to your 2nd email address.

They are taking new testers and it happens instantaneously.

I recently received a new (replacement) phone and when I tried to install Swype I got the association error. I read the first post and it said that I have gone through 4 device but I have only had 2 because of a replacement and now I am on my 3rd due to an upgrade but here is some info.

I had a phone replaced and swype would not allow me to install again. So I had to use the feature that let me add a different phone to my accout. That was last year and now I have a new phone and when I tried to install Swype I got an error that said my account is registered to a different device.

So when I access my account under phone info it states- No new device allowed on this account, sorry! I looked in the forum and did not see anything that looked like it applied to me. Any help would be appreciated or do I not qualify for the beta any more? Thanks
