View Full Version : Swype Android Beta November 2010 is now as bad as Swype Android Beta Sept 2010

OK, something is seriously broken.

I've been using Swype since it was leaked as a apk file.

September 2010 Swype was broken to the point of uninstall.
Nov held promise, now it is broken again, same problems as Sept 2010

1) over aggressive harvesting of words from my contacts
2) hidden word pop up aggressively appears - I am appalled that Swype team cannot remove it or give us an option to disable, it's almost as if Swype team does not have access to source code!
3) Cannot delete words harvested from contacts, in fact, the inability to delete now is worse - in sept beta, once you restarted phone or Swype, the word will come back, now, even within the same session, it will come back.

So, as of now, Swype Nov Beta is again, broken.

Please fix it, we use it every day.

One thing I can be thankful, thank god, thank god, my Swype is not preloaded.

Hi I too am having all the same problems I had with Swype Sept update with the November 2010 beta. I'm so disappointed! I am getting random words that don't exist in first place of choices. i'm without capitalization insists on coming back no matter how many times I delete it. All my contacts are again as top choices instead of words! Is there a way to fix this???

I'm also finding that my dictionary is packed with nonsense, trash words. Stuff I've never typed in myself. So the hidden word notification is just as bad as it was. I'm also not sure that deleting the word actually deletes anything.

Delete your Dalvik cache?

For the love of god, can we PLEASE get an option to disable the hidden word dialog all together? Even after the update I'm getting it more and more frequently, even for dictionary words that weren't added (I just got saying the word "test" had hidden other words).

Until it can be disabled all together, I'm going back to Swiftkey. It may be slower, but at least I'm not overwhelmed with frustration typing a simple message.

I had a French Swype keyword pre-loaded on my Galaxy S and it worked quite well. I did a usual update of the software of my mobile phone which introduced a new version of Swype which is now locked on English. After reading the forums, it appeared that I had to uninstall the swype application before reinstalling it but it's impossible even afer following the procedure on your website (swype doesn't appear in the downloaded applications list...)... When will it be fixed ? Thank you from Dijon, France !

Delete your Dalvik cache?

Indeed I have cleared the dalvik cache especially after the mini update for nexus one a couple of days back.

How do you clear the dalvik cache? I think in the past I wiped the cache from Manage Applications screen, but that didn't fix it at the time. Do you have to do something else to get the dalvik cache?

AGREED!! I typed in the word "putt" the other day and options that came up when you double-tap the word were the following: outre, piotr and pyotr.

WHY are these in the dictionary?? WHY can't I take them OUT of the dictionary?? I have chosen "English" as my language...what WORLD are these words from!!?? LOL!!

Yesterday I encountered the dreaded pop up telling me I had a word hidden by 'Mr', a word that I don't use in txts etc but does appear in a few entries of my contacts list. I duly went to delete 'Mr' and it took 25 delete cycles to eradicate it completely so I guess Swype had added 25 copies of Mr to the user dictionary - Today I've just deleted it another 8 times!!! Out of interest I just had a look if Swype had saved 'Mrs' to the dictionary & sure enough it's taken 34 delete cycles to delete which presumably means 34 copies of 'Mrs' in the user dictionary - WHY???

In my opinion the November update initially seemed a great improvement but as time goes by the dross is slowly accumulating in the user dictionary and it is now little better than the September aberration - why can't you just let us switch off 'ADD to Dictionary'?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I'd previously uninstalled the Sept 2010 update, finding it unusable. It was a welcome relief to use the Nov 2010 version but over the past few days I've found it has had increasing problems and the bl***y Hidden Word notification is back with a vengance. Half the time it is repeatedly saying a proper word has been 'hidden' by a name from my address book, other times it's saying it has been hidden by another proper word!! I've tried deleting some of them but they just keep getting re-added from the contacts list.

Swype team, please:

1) Enable a way of getting rid of the stupid hidden word notification - once you've seen it once you REALLY don't want to see it again - at least give us an option to switch it off, what would be the issue with that?
2) Stop aggresively re-adding words from contacts when they've been deleted. Perhaps also offer the option to NOT add names from contacts automatically.
3) Please please let us view the dictionary and remove the words we don't want in it!

It's getting close to me having to uninstall Swype again, which would be a real shame (although I'd love the 10MB of RAM back given how tight things are on the HTC Desire!)

Yes, at first thought the new beta had made big improvement to the hidden word fiasco, but alas no.

it's mind boggling that swype t thinks this behavior it's even remotely acceptable.

Get RId Of the hidden word poop please!

I am also being driven to distraction by the fact Swype insist on repacing numbers with stuff from the dictionary ie with prediction switched ON typing the number 1 results in 10q being inserted; 2 results in 2moro; 4 results in 4ever, 7 results in 7qt - WHY - I just want the number not stuff after it

Admin seems conspicuously silent with regard to the user dictionary so does anyone (including Admin) know of a way to globally delete ALL the words added to the user dictionary - I've just deleted another 22 copies of 'Mr' & 'Mrs' & dozens of other nonsense word & names that Swype keeps adding - this is getting past a joke!!

I've been having increasing problems with the Hidden Words dialogue, and since the latest update (November?), it thinks that tons of regular words are special words that I added, like "van" and "told."

The dialogue is useless to begin with, because even if Swype puts in a word that I don't want, I can always pop up the Swype dialogue to pick the word I did want. I don't need to know what's happening under the hood. Now that it's happening alllll the time, not just with names or fancy words I added, it's even worse.
