I just received the 2.2 update for the Droid Incredible today, and swype was no longer working. I have tried to reinstall it per the instructions but I still get the "The ID of this of this phone does not match your registration at beta.swype.com" error. I have tried to troubleshoot this per the instructions, and still am getting the error. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks uacat,

Please click the "InfoDesk" link at the top of any page and open a new ticket titled "ESN Reset." In your ticket, please include the MEID number of your device as listed in Settings -> About Phone -> Phone Identity. If that value reads "NOT AVAILABLE" or "UNKNOWN," no need to open a ticket. Just reply here and let me know.

I have the Motorola Droid on Verizon and have been using the Swype Beta since it came out in June. When Verizon pushed out the Froyo update, it bricked my phone and they had to send me a new device. I want to install the beta on my new phone, but it won't let me saying it's already installed on a device. I assume it was tied to my old phone and I have to change that somehow. The FAQ for the BETA says to send an e-mail with required information (which I did) but then I received an e-mail that said to go here for help.

In short, is it possible to move the beta to my new device and how would I go about doing so?

Thank you

I Finally got swype to instal, but now it wont function while trying to "swype" my words. The keyboard just gets a blue box around and blinks once. Any reason why this would be doing this on froyo?

08-31-2010, 7:18 PM
Hmmm. It's one of two problems. Either there was a problem loading the registration, or the licensing itself failed. You can try rebooting your device to see if that fixes things for you, but more than likely you'll need to reinstall and make sure that there's plenty of free memory (close widgets, etc), as well as make sure you don't have a third party task manager (such as Advanced Task Killer) installed. Check the "Basic Troubleshooting Steps" and try those, now that your ESN is taken care of.

I uninstalled both Lookout and system panel and now it works. It was probably some weird conflict with one of those apps. Thanks again for all the help.

I think I'm having a different, yet related issue. Just upgraded to 2.2 on my Incredible and by following the Basic Troubleshooting Steps, I can get Swype Beta to successfully install and register, but I still only see the stock keyboard. And yes, I have Swype checked under Language & Keyboard. Here's my info as well as a pastebin link containing my logs through the installation of Swype and me opening up a text and bringing the keyboard up. Since there isn't an explicit error, I don't know if logs will be helpful but here goes anyway:

Device Make/Model: HTC Incredible
Wireless Carrier: Verizon
Android Version: 2.2
ROM Version: Stock
Are you using APPS2SD? No
Full text of the error message you are receiving: Described above in first part of post.
What troubleshooting steps have you completed so far? Basic Troubleshooting Steps from your link, plus a reboot for giggles after I noticed it not working
Are you a ROOT user? No

Thanks for any help and I hope we can get this working because I don't know if I can live without Swype :D

Hey mcflurry,

I'm guessing that you're forgetting to switch the Input Method in addition to enabling Swype in Language & Keyboard. Simply long-press any text box (the area where your text will appear), choose Input Method, and select Swype to set it as your default.

I did that almost every time when I first started working with Swype in-depth. Took me WEEKS to make sure I remembered that every time, heh.

That fixed it! I really don't remember doing that when I first got the beta haha. My bad.

Thanks for the really quick reply at a very odd hour by the way.

Hello,

I have been using swype for a while now, but it stopped working after the OTA 2.2 update. I uninstalled app and app installer, redownloaded installer from email link, and I now get the ID error that others have experienced. I attempted all of the troubleshooting I could find to solve the problem. It appears to be an ID/ESN/Licensing issue, not one on my phone itself. Also, I don't have any third party app killers, etc.

Also, this line appears in my SendLog:
09-01 16:11:30.899 D/SwypeInstaller( 1445): Got improper ESN error logging into server

Many thanks for your help.

I've found the offending entry in your log, but am at a loss as to what's causing it - it's not something I've seen before in relation to the Swype installation process.

09-02 06:43:13.077 D/SwypeInstaller( 1879): Exception writing APK to file: java.io.IOException: Read error: I/O error during system call, Connection timed out
It looks like you've got a system configuration problem, or possibly an application conflict. You can try going through your installed app list and uninstalling apps one-by-one, or you can try a full factory reset/wipe. Beyond that, I'm completely stumped  I'll pass this along to our QA team, incase they've seen this issue before.

Ok, the first thing I'd like you to try is disabling APPS2SD. Swype will not install properly with script-based a2sd. Please manually disable a2sd, install Swype to your internal memory, then re-enable a2sd. In addition, you'll need to make sure that ALL files starting with com.swype.android are deleted from BOTH the a2sd app directory (/sdext/data/app? /mnt/sdext/data/app?) AND the internal /data/app directory. This is likely the reason why you're seeing "swype is already installed" errors. Let me know how that goes for you.

Swype is infact installed on the internal memory. I re-formatted my sd before updating to froyo, so there is definitely no trace of any swype files on there. The ROM I am running only moves apps to the ext partition if the phone's internal memory becomes low. As of right now I have no apps at all on my sd. I believe that swype is considering my previous ROM to be another phone. A few other apps (like appbrain market) have also detected my phone as a different phone since flashing 2.2. I have never had issues with re-installing swype after flashing a new ROM until flashing a froyo based one.

Ahh, I'm sorry, I should have read more carefully. Here's the section of your log showing the error:
09-03 15:41:49.345 I/ActivityManager( 4842): Process com.swype.android.installer (pid 5631) has died.
09-03 15:41:49.345 I/ActivityManager( 4842): Low Memory: No more background processes.

If you've already got SWAP enabled, I'm not sure what else we can try. We know that this is an issue, and hopefully we'll be able to fix the installer for a future release (though I know we won't have time to get it done for our next beta update...the devs are wayyyyy too busy with other projects right now).

Do you think it's a matter of Froyo being too RAM intensive, as I have not had issues until 2.2?

Hi there,

I have been using Swype since June, but it no longer worked after an OTA update to 2.2 from a manually updated 2.1

I submitted a SendLog to the android.beta.com email on 8/18, but received first an out of office message, followed by an email message that Swype would no longer be offering support via email, so I very much hope that this is the proper place to request assistance.

Device Make/Model: Motorola Droid
Wireless Carrier: Verizon Wireless
Android Version (2.2 FroYo? 1.6 Donut?): 2.2
ROM Version (Stock? Custom ROM?): Stock
Are you using APPS2SD?: No
Full text of the error message you are receiving (if you are not receiving an error, describe the problem in as much detail as possible): The ID of this of this phone does not match your registration at beta.swype.com
What troubleshooting steps have you completed so far?: Followed website troubleshooting guide for problem.
Are you a ROOT user? (If you don't know what this means then the answer is "no"): No
MEID: REMOVED BY ADMIN - DO NOT post your ESN# in public threads. This information can be used to SPOOF YOUR DEVICE and you'll wrack up enormous charges on your phone bill.
No 3rd party task managers installed

My full SendLog is here: http://pastebin.com/6YP3aQuj

Also received this line in my SendLog: 09-05 22:14:44.486 D/SwypeInstaller( 1600): Got improper ESN error logging into server

Is it too late to open a trouble ticket for an ESN reset?

Thanks for any help you can provide! Swype is awesome and I miss it very much.

Hi, I am one of the many people unable to put the beta back after an update to Froyo. My previous Titanium backup does not think it is the same phone (Something to do with android id which seems to be different in this build??) , and I have the installer issue as above.

I have created a 258mb swap , used auto memory manager to reduce the agresivness of the memory management played with the swapiness settings in swapper, used adb to kill things while I try the install. Played with nice valiue of the installer and more.. Each on there own and in combinations.

I have a Samsung Galaxy I7500 running GAOSP (the AOSP project for Galaxy) but am missing swype with a passion. Could you please make the small change to the installer that will allow it go straight to registration if the app is already installed.

I am really out of ideas.

Thanks

Please post your debugging logs. Instructions can be found in the "HOW-TO" thread at the top of the forum.

Yeah, you've nailed my guess right on the head. You can try using a temporary SWAP file, by downloading the app SWAPPER from the Android Market. There's more information available in the "known issues" thread.

It's never too late! You're confirmed to need an ESN reset. Go ahead and open a ticket in the InfoDesk with subject "ESN Reset" and include in the ticket your MEID (removed from your post), and the email address you used to register for the beta.

Please make sure you've completed the full uninstall/reinstall process. If you have, I'll need you to post your debugging logs. Instructions are available in the "HOW-TO" thread at the top of the troubleshooting forum.

Am I to understand that you're trying to use a backup of the PreInstalled version of Swype that came with your Galaxy S? If so, this won't be possible. Each version of Swype is customized very specifically for the device it ships with - including the software shipped with the phone. Swype PreLoad versions will not work outside that specific environment.

If you're trying to install a fresh copy of Swype Beta, you must make sure there are no remnants from Swype PreLoad or previous beta versions on your system whatsoever. Beyond that, I'll need to see debugging logs to know anything more about your issue. Please follow the steps in our "HOW-TO" thread at the top of the forums for submitting your logs to this thread. Thanks.

Hi there,

I am trying to install Swype again on Galaxy I7500. (Not S) I have used Swype from 1.5 through 1.6 and 2.1 to even some early builds of 2.2.

So I know like everyone on here, this is somthing to do with the Installer / Froyo.

The backups I had from previous O/S versions do not work and I have tried everything possible to kepp the installer alive and complete the process.

Everything listed in this thread and more, I have tried. Please, amend the install so if it finds Swype there, it gives you the option of moving straight to the registration.

Thanks

I Finally got swype to instal, but now it wont function while trying to "swype" my words. The keyboard just gets a blue box around and blinks once. Any reason why this would be doing this on froyo?

I'm getting the exact same problem - a blue box appears around the keyboard but nothing is typed out in the input area when I swype a word. If I just tap letters individually (like any other keyboard), they work just fine. But since that kinda defeats the purpose of this keyboard...that's not cool.

Please try the following steps and let me know if this resolves your issue:

If you've been experiencing the above issue, please try the following. Once we got confirmation that this works every time, we'll move this to "issues with known work arounds" below:
Make sure Swype and SwypeInstaller are both INSTALLED (even if showing errors when trying to use)
Go to Settings -> Language & Keyboard and UNCHECK Swype.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Swype Press CLEAR DATA. Then press UNINSTALL.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> SwypeInstaller Press CLEAR DATA. Then press UNINSTALL.
Delete everything from the download directory on my SDcard
Force Stop every process I can without making the system unusable in Settings -> Applications -> Running (tab)
Install the update.

The below fix did not change anything.

1. Make sure Swype and SwypeInstaller are both INSTALLED (even if showing errors when trying to use)
2. Go to Settings -> Language & Keyboard and UNCHECK Swype.
3. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Swype Press CLEAR DATA. Then press UNINSTALL.
4. Go to Settings -> Applications -> SwypeInstaller Press CLEAR DATA. Then press UNINSTALL.
5. Delete everything from the download directory on my SDcard
6. Force Stop every process I can without making the system unusable in Settings -> Applications -> Running (tab)
7. Install the update.

Just wanted to say thank you.

The new installer with the latest beta has solved the install issues.
It crashed at Enabe swype but finished the registration.
I'm now using swype on froyo. In fact I'm writing this message with it.

I was getting so frustrated, swype is a amazing and all my new phones will have it.

Thanks again.
